Captain Dan Dow

Dan Dow, a resident of Atascadero, just completed a year long tour of Iraq as a member of the Army National Guard. Dow works as a deputy District Attorney (DA) for the SLO county District Attorney’s Office. This is Dan’s second deployment since 9/11; his first was a tour in Kosovo in 2003. He puts his legal expertise to use as a judge advocate general (JAG) in Iraq.

Dow joined the Army Reserve in 1989. He started out as a radio operator and later became a linguist in Korea in 1992. Dow said, “The Army has become part of who I am. I had a four-year break and tended to miss it. My blood turns Army green; I’m proud to be able to serve our country.” His blood may run Army green, but he also has military running through his veins as his great-great-grandfather served as a 1st lieutenant in Co. E., 4th Maine Infantry Regiment during the Civil War.

Dan is married to Wendy and has children Chloe and Jed. He will talk about his military tour in Iraq and tell us how our country is doing in this war-torn land and the effect combat has had on his personal life.

Dinner is open to the public. It is a catered event ($17/person) and reservations are required, either on-line HERE or call 805 467-3521.

Obbie Atkinson Memorial Blood Drive

The Estrella Warbird Museum hosted the United Blood Services donation bus today, May 6th in memory of Obbie Atkinson. It was a typical effort of the group of people making up the EWM community-successful! We had over 30 people, both EWM members and others from the community sign in and donate in the allotted four hour period. This was at full capacity for the available faciities and staff from the Blood bank.

I wish to thank all the donors and museum volunteers who gave their time, and more, to make this a successful and fitting day.

#86 Arrives At Ronald Reagan Presidential Library for summer display

As reported last month, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library has chosen #86, from the Estrella Warbirds Museum Automotive Display to be part of an on-going summer display highlighting President Reagans interest in automotive racing.  For more information, visit the library in SImi Valley or visit here.
