The Estrella Warbirds Museum Research Library consists of a collection of over 7,000 items. All of the collection's materials are donations to the Estrella Warbirds Museum. These include books, magazines (aviation and military themed), and DVDs related to the area of both civilian and military aviation. There are also several file drawers full of clippings and articles related to aviation and the military. The materials in the collection, covers the years from the Wright Brother's flight to current times. We have materials related to early aviation, as well as information related to the various conflicts of the twentieth century.
Process
The library is open most Thursdays and Saturdays, 10 am to 4 pm. The library may be open on Fridays and Sundays, 10 am to 4 pm, depending on availability of volunteer staffers. Visitors, members, and researchers are welcome, whenever the library is open.
The library is set up as a "lending / check-out" library for members of the Estrella Warbirds Museum. It is also available as a "research / resource" library for the college and high school students of San Louis Obispo County. Much of the librarys' collection is available for check-out. However, some of the materials are so fragile / old that they are restricted to in-house library handling only.
Members and their families may check-out up to four items for a thirty day period. Renewal of check-out items is available. Students, wishing to do research, only have to present their student ID cards (for free admission) to the library area (only). Researchers should be aware that the library does not have any copier / scanning capabilities. Subject matter photography, within reason, is permitted. The library, at this time, does not have subject matter indexing available.
